One of the things I find most amusing in advertising today is the drug advertisement. Most of the time, it seems better to just suffer the ailment than to risk consuming the drug.
My recent favorite is AMBIEN. It is a sleep aid. The following is actually taken from their drug warning:
Sleepwalking, and eating or driving while not fully awake, with amnesia for the event, as well as behaviors such as being more outgoing or aggressive than normal, confusion, agitation, and hallucinations have been reported. In patients with depression, worsening of depression, including risk of suicidal thoughts or actions may occur.
“Sleepdriving” (a word they coined in their print ad)? Eating while sleeping? Increased aggression? Agitation? Hallucinations? Suicidal thoughts? At this point, it sounds like some guy created a drug so he could take it and get away with murder.
Wife: Who ate the last piece of cake?
Husband: Uh…I don’t know. I was asleep [winks].
Wife: And where is our car?
Husband: We have a car [punches a hole in the wall]?
Wife: What are you swatting at?
Husband: Little flying fat guys with wings [picks up knife to stab himself].
I think I would take my chances losing a little sleep.
